The Gentle Revolution Presents: The Pre-Vinylettes’ Suffragette Centennial

The Gentle Revolution is proud to present The Pre-Vinylettes’ Suffragette Centennial. An exhibition of hand painted signs as the second iteration of the Pre-Vinylettes womxn sign painters’ event featuring an international array of more than sixty artists whose work displays the wide range of experience, skill, and technique apparent in the sign painting world today. In addition to its focus on the sign painting and its interpretations, the Pre-Vinylettes’ Suffragette Centennial exhibition is also a call to action to continue the necessary work of protecting and advancing the rights of all marginalized people.

A critical, commemorative exhibition of hand painted signs made by women, trans, and post-binary sign painters at Portland’s Ford Gallery from September 26 - October 25, 2020. Due to Covid-19 and no public access, the exhibition became live on the internet at www.previnylettes.com. It is still live there along with cataloge purchases, mural painting videos and views, with links to Instagram Pre-Vinylette interviews. Views of the gallery and the artwork are now available on this page. Additions of other stories, views of mural painting and related events will be updated as time allows.

As a companion to the exhibition, the Pre-Vinylettes’ Suffragette Centennial also includes a sixty page, standard size exhibition catalog with an essay by co-curator Meredith Kasabian and images and artist statements by forty-three of the show’s artists. Available at www.previnylettes.com or via contact on this website.
